How do I book a ride with Fire Island Water Taxi?
Lateral taxis do not require a reservation – you simply wait on the dock in the designated area shown on our schedules page. Some ports may require a call to our dispatcher to request a pick-up.
Where does Fire Island Water Taxi operate?
Our water taxi services operate between the Lighthouse and Watch Hill and all points in between on Fire Island. Cross bay service is available from the mainland to Fire Island. Check our routes and schedules on our website for specific details.
What are the payment options for Fire Island Water Taxi?
All fares are collected on board the boats for lateral service. Our accepted forms of payment are cash and our mobile e-ticket. The link to our app can be found on the home page – and is the same app as the Fire Island Ferry app.
Are pets allowed on board?
Yes, we welcome well-behaved pets on our water taxis. However, please keep them on a leash and inform our crew during boarding.
Can I bring luggage or bicycles on the water taxi?
Luggage and small personal items are allowed. Bicycles may be accommodated on a case-by-case basis, depending on vessel capacity and safety considerations. Please contact us in advance for bicycle arrangements.
Are the boats wheelchair accessible?
Some of our vessels are wheelchair accessible. Please inform us of any special requirements at the time of booking, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
What happens in case of inclement weather or cancellations?
The safety of our passengers is our top priority. In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, trips and schedules may be delayed or canceled. We will make announcements and provide updates via our website and customer service channels. If in doubt, give our dispatcher a call.
How far in advance do I need to book a cross bay?
We ask that all cross-bay reservations are made at least 24 hours in advance, at a minimum. Please note that time slots fill up fast so if you know the days of your travel, book in advance!
